Engine
Build a serious aerobic base, faster running and the ability to repeat hard efforts. Entry standards are a floor, not the level needed to thrive through PARA training.
Paras fitness preparation UK
Prepare for Army assessment, PRDV, P Company and Parachute Regiment training with structured running, strength, loaded movement and accountable coaching.
Selection route
The Parachute Regiment expects a higher physical standard than simply scraping through an entry test. Build the engine, robustness and habits before Catterick.
Complete the Army application, recruiter discussion, medical process and the two-day assessment. Current Paratrooper entry fitness standards include the role-specific run, mid-thigh pull and medicine-ball throw.
After the initial Army assessment interview, successful candidates attend the Parachute Regiment Development Visit to confirm the qualities and basic fitness needed to start PARA training.
Current training at Catterick includes 13 weeks of basic and Infantry Initial Trade Training followed by the 19-week PARA Combat Infantry Course, including P Company training and tests.
After completing the course, soldiers undertake the current three-week parachuting course before joining a battalion as a trained Paratrooper.
Use the current British Army Paratrooper role page and your candidate portal for the latest entry standards, PRDV instructions and training dates.
Official Paratrooper route →Preparation priorities
Build a serious aerobic base, faster running and the ability to repeat hard efforts. Entry standards are a floor, not the level needed to thrive through PARA training.
Develop legs, trunk, grip, pulling, pushing and loaded movement progressively. Robustness matters when running, field training and fatigue accumulate.
Train on schedule, recover properly, organise your kit and practise staying useful when tired. P Company preparation cannot be built by occasional heroic sessions.

Questions
Join We The Elite. It is the service preparation route for Parachute Regiment and British Army candidates, with running, strength, bodyweight work, conditioning and community accountability.
The Parachute Regiment Development Visit follows the initial Army assessment interview and checks whether a candidate has the qualities and basic fitness needed to start PARA training.
No. Passing the entry standard gets you through a gate; it does not guarantee you are ready for the volume and fatigue of PARA training. Build above the minimum through progressive, recoverable training.
